Day two on Lake Oahe out of Pierre, South Dakota got underway and the weather conditions once again are making things interesting. Day one called for a bit of wind, but it never happened and remained flat nearly all day. Today is looking to be much of the same. As it always happens, a few anglers found the right fish, which put the top bag just shy of 18 lbs., but interestingly, less than three pounds separate 12th from 50th place. Its a tight race!
The boys are certainly in position to move up drastically. Skarlis is starting out in 45th place, Grothe is in 43rd and Bell is in 30th, but all are expecting to upgrade their finish today as their patterns seem to be holding. With such a tight separation across the field, one big bite could dramatically change the standings. For all but 12 anglers, today will be the final day of competition and today again will be about managing the livewell hoping the biggest 'over' possible eats a presentation. Hot windless conditions remain dominant, which will make the bite interesting, if not more difficult. The fish are here and putting together a limit is pretty easy but it will likely take a good bag of 15-18 lbs or more to make the cut today. Weigh-in will take place this afternoon at 3 PM. Stay tuned! |

The end of day two was much like day one. Hot. Weights were down overall, but one angler still managed to catch a 19 pound bag which likely won't be beat. The weather remains the most difficult factor to overcome for all the anglers, especially the heat. With the wind nearly flat again, the fish were staged in the clear water much deeper making it extremely difficult to keep the bigger fish alive for extended periods of time. But, tournaments are not rescheduled due to the weather, the anglers still have to prevail!
Because today is cut day, the top 12 anglers will be fishing Oahe alone tomorrow. The Wild 4 Outdoors crew showed up and caught lots of great fish, full limits every day even, however they did not make the cut for the final day of the tournament. They fished for points and each moved forward in the AOY standings with one more event to accrue points to qualify for the year ending championship in the Quad Cities. Ross Grothe finished in 27th with 26.00, Tommy Skarlis finished in 43rd with a two day total of 24.38, and Jimmy Bell finished in 51st with 23.75. Each angler would have liked to have done better, but overall they had a good showing and they are already making plans for Bay de Nocs in August just a few short weeks away. Thanks for following along and watch for more updates over the next couple of weeks! - Tommy, Ross and Jimmy |
