Question Hydrofoil decision?

Hey guys I've been looking at hydrofoils and I thought I wanted to go with the stingray stealth not the classic not the XR III for my 2000 ELPTO 125 merc on my warrior v177 falcon to help get on plane faster with more weight in the boat but mainly to get rid of porpoising. After reading reviews this sounds like a horrible waste of money as most of them had fallen off the motor after these guys said they had installed them properly the reason I want to go with a drill free set up is because my motor has already been drilled before and the drill holes are off set from each other and when I bought it I didn't ask what type was on there before and I don't want to drill 4 more holes. I know the SE sport 300 dosen't fit the holes but I'm t hinking of going with that set up with the sport clip anybody have any info on if the prop will clear the sport clip or have a certain hydrofoil on a very similar setup? any feed back would be great in helping me to decide which setup to go with

Default I run the SE 300

on my Starcraft. it's been on the boat for 10 years and predates the sport clip, so its bolted on. I had to re-tighten the bolts once- about 6 years ago. Works like a charm and stopped all porpoising, while dropping minimum planing speed from 22-23 down to 17.

US,
If you want to use an SE 300, just use the existing holes in your motor and drill new holes in the SE300.

Take care

Hydrofoils are band aids for improper outboard set up or poor performing/designed hulls.

I put the stingray classic on this same motor but on a crestliner. Made a world of difference! Maybe lost a touch of speed on the top end but more than made up for it in overall performance.

I do not consider these a bandaid, especially on under powered boats such as my crestliner and your warrior.

thanks for the advice rew i guess I never thought of that but I wonder if it would weaken the hydrofoil by drilling holes into it but I think that might work out well. Also if it seemed my boat is underpowered it is not top gps is 41mph. The main problem is the porpoising when I trim it up and no I am not triming the boat to far out of the water. Also like I said to improve my hole shot mainly for pulling skiers though.

Default If double sets of holes make you nervous...

...then just go to a hardware store and get a piece of 1/8 thick by 1 inch wide aluminum strip stock. Cut this and hand file this after cutting into 2 strips to run the length of the foil on the top side, and drill the mounting holes thru the foil and the aluminum strips. When you install the mounting bolts, the strips act like a big washer and sandwich the foil in place. Or, as an alternate, just use a big auto body "fender washer" under the small standard washer that you would use under the attachment nuts- which would be on the top side of the installed tab.

I would probably just use the big washers on a 40-45 mph boat.

I have a 2001 warrior V177 Hawk with the same Merc 125 2 stroke motor as you do. What kind of prop are you running? I have a 20p stainless "High Five" five blade prop on mine and the boats takes off and planes extremely fast. I get 43 mph with just me and my gear in the boat with a full tank of fuel, 41 mph with another person along. I do also get the porpoising that you do when trimming up at full throttle. A few people have recommended this http://www.bobsmachine.com/Products/...stabilizer.cfm plate to me and I ordered one yesterday. I'll let you know how it works when I get it setup.

Awesome to hear Rupey64 I would like to know how that works out on your warrior. It's nice to talk to someone with the same setup. I'm running just a standard alum 19 pitch which I run around south dakota and nebraska occasionally wyoming high altitude area which is where I currently live. How is that stainless prop? was it worth the money? I thought about getting one myself but have been undecisive due to cost and a little hesitant about hitting a rock or other underwater object and damaging my lower end, although that is not a very big concern as I am a competent boater but sometimes **** happens
