I was pretty sure it was a lost cause when took it off my boat, but so much potential. Yarcraft, how did you get Lowrance to stand behind it for the upgrade. I tried, check book in hand but the customer service rep I talked to was pretty indifferent.

Thanks again for your responses, I was hoping for the "perfect setting" that would make it work like advertised.

This was several years ago, sad to say. It was also during the Linda Colt era (she was a wonderful customer support person!). I expect Lowrance no longer has any trade-ins, etc. for benefit of 330-series owners.

So, another friend has a 25 foot Trojan who I fish with on Lake Michigan frequently. I offered him my Lowrance 334 for free, the only caveat is he was not allowed to hate me when he got frustrated at the unit. He is an electrician who does mostly the micro stuff so is quite familiar with small electronics. Yesterday he replaced the regular power wire with a shielded wire and it actually seemed to help, but we still lost bottom frequently, but the GPS side was pretty darn good.

I've read about the Airmar transducers and also about so many people having problems and saying the unit was just not very good.

Has anyone found the Lowrance 334 secret. Hate to see him throw money at something that will possibly never work as advertised.

Thanks for any help. Trying to keep him from hating me for giving him a free Lowrance.

May 17, 2013 Lowrance Update....well Rick bought the AIRMAR transducer and stuck it on his boat. Maiden voyage yesterday. It worked! Who knows, if I'd have know about AIRMAR before I converted to the "other" company, might still be with Lowrance. Seriously though, never lost bottom once, even cruising in the 20 MPH range. The new owner of the Lowrance is happy, and I certainly am glad it is finally working.

I have been a Bird fan for years but for some reason I jumped on the Lowrance bandwagon with the 334c several years ago. I have never been so unimpressed with a unit as this one.

I was running a little PiranhaMax 15 that worked ten times better at showing depth, structure and fish as opposed to the 334.

After being blind for several years I dumped it and picked up an 898 to replace it. I felt like I came home again once I had this unit on the boat.

I will never go back to Lowrance but also realize that the 334 is nothing compared to the units Lowrance has now.
