I am just realizing that my motor needs be raised - I believe two holes.? Owned boat since it was new; 2001 Lund tyee 1850 with 175 Optimax. This is how boat dealer originally set it up - only thing I changed was prop (alum to SS).
Photo on left is WOT (47mph), trimmed up (+7). Photo on right is same trim on trailer. Motor is mounted directly to transom, top holes. My objective is to increase economy and overall performance. Currently experimenting with props and evaluating motor height. Last tried a Tempest Plus 21P and discovered it is definitely too much prop (47mph but only 4950rpm - looking for 5400-5600rpm). With boat and motor leveled out on trailer, center of prop spindle is 8in below bottom of hull/keel, top of cavitation plate is 1/4in below the bottom of hull/keel. Marine store wants $100+ to raise my motor (hydraulic steering). Wondering if I could tackle myself? Have access to tractor and loaded (hoist) but no lifting ring. All constructive and relevant feedback is appreciated. |

All you need is a lifting ring and a hoist, not hard to do...did mine this afternoon as I've been testing props all this week...third time in a week I've moved it.
Easier to do with two people, but possible with one. |

dont forget to put a little silicone calk on each bolt when ypu replace them.
I did mine myself. Used a come-along and added a little extra support to the trust in the garage. moved my 175 opti with no issues. Have to get a lifting ring first. |
