I installed Norton AntiVirus 2012 on my PC. Are there any free programs that will work with Norton to protect my PC to the limit. Or is the Norton I have on there now more than enough to protect it?

I used norton for many years, never really had a issue as I am cautious on what I open. But in saying that I have since switched to AVG, it is free and works really good.

Avast has a good free antivirus program and many of the same features as Norton except for a firewall and phone tech support.

The truth is no antivirus program or combination of programs creates 100% protection against malware. Norton does make some of the best antivirus products. At one time, I dumped Norton and switched to AVG, then AVAST, because Norton was such a resource hog on the computer. More recent tests of antivirus programs have shown that Norton has corrected the resource problem and provides protection superior to some of the freeware AV programs. So, I now subscribe to Norton Internet Security.

AVG is a very good program for the price. I have a couple businesses that I support as side work running that instead of Mcafee that they were running. And their computers are twice as fast as before. Norton has always been the same way from what ive seen. Personally I dont run any anti virus on my PCs at home. Im also a gamer and do what I can to keep it fast and not bogged down. Haven't had a problem running that way either. Any potential hackers reading this must realize i wasnt dumb enough to post this on my gaming PC

I have Norton 360 on my computer. I also have Ad Aware popup blocker. They seem to work well together.

If you use Comcast's "Xfinity" internet service you can download and install the Norton Security Suite for free:
http://xfinity.comcast.net/constantg...cid=NET_33_623 I've done this on all of our computers and have had no issues. |

No, one shield of defense is not enough. You must defend yourself with a layered approach. Free products only go so far these days. With modern automated malware, my opinion is you can not adequately defend yourself with free stuff anymore. You need to spend some money to get good added programs to help augment your defense from modern malware.
This is a small portion of a map of lure, drop, and attack servers. http://www.bluecoat.com/security/sec...ery-networks-0 0) Run all Window's updates and third party updates as soon as they come out. That means being proactive on keeping in touch with what needs to be updated on your computer. You can use the free program from Secunia for that. Secunia PSI 3.0 and auto run it to scan every bootup or every other day. http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ 1) A good PAID based AV Internet Suite, not just their detuned AV only program. That adds a start to your multi-layered defense. 2) Enterprise based content filtering that blocks every one of the lure, drop, and attack servers in the map link above. When a threat is found, it can be added to your router/firewall's cloud based content filtering in seconds by the content filtering service. There are only a couple of SOHO (small business and home office) based router /firewalls that can do this at an affordable price for the router and the yearly content filtering subscription. 3) Adding OpenDNS basic content filtering or OpenDNS Family Shield augmenting the above paid router/firewall/content filter. 4) Adding Hitman Pro from SurfRight $29 or Malwarebyte's Pro for $29 that both work great with your current AV as another layer. .
