Default shipping a neon beer light

Going to attempt to ship a neon beer light to my brother in maui, HI. Any suggestions on how to pack it and which carrier to use to insure the best chance of it getting there in one piece.
Thanks
Jim

Schmidt's,
I suggest that you take it to a professional packer.
I wouldn't be surprised if he built a wood crate, and then filled it with air bubbles and plastic peanuts.

You will want at least 2 feet of shock absorbing packing around the light.
But let the pro do it and you should be all right.

Of course you want to insure it for about 4 times what its replacement costs are so that you will actually be able to replace it, if it happens to break.

My BIL sent me a Miller Light neon sign for my birthday and had UPS pack it for him.
It was packed in a heavy cardboard box with bubble wrap ... then placed inside another larger box with bubble wrap.
It made it OK ... but it only went from Wisconsin to South Dakota.
Overseas? I think the above suggestions are well worth it.

If you are purchasing it from the manufacturer you might be able to drop ship it ... then they take the responsibility for shipping damage.

Shipping may cost more than the sign.

Schmidts,
Here is another thought.
How about finding the same sign in Hawaii via the internet , and have the seller drop ship it to your brother.
You can bet that the shipping cost will be many times less.

I sold an "open" sign on eBay and it was sent FedEx ground and it was smashed. At that time I was selling a lot of stuff on eBay and I would always receive comments on how well I packed the product I sold, this sign was no different. I did a wooden frame that fit inside the box with some luan sides with bubble wrap, and popcorn. I also put very low density foam to suport the neon tubes. iIt had fragile stickers on every side with glass stickers. I think they laughed as they through it 10 feet into the truck. If I did it again, I would crate it and send it that way. No throwing a crate around like a rage doll.
