Default Milky colored hubs on ranger trailer

So my Ranger is a 2004 and when I bought it used it had milky colored oil in the hubs (or at least it looked that way). It does not leak and I had a dealer check and the seals were good. I had him replace with new oil and they are milky again. He said they are fine to use. I drove the thing about 1000 miles last week and they were never warm to the touch and there was no leakage.

What gives with the color?? anyone else have this??

I changed the oil in mine one morning and then went to the lake. By the time I got back home one hub was milky. The next time it rolled was a fourteen hour 65 mph road trip to the factory. They were clear as a bell after a little run time.
It's a closed system and it has air in there so I think it takes in a little moisture when its opened up. I never worry about it. It comes and goes

Default Thanks

It seems to be moisture and air bubbles that mix and form some type of emulsion to give it a different look. It is interesting that is will change color again, as mine do as well. Thanks for the reply.

I seem to remember reading that they changed the clear plastic caps to solid black so we can't see the oil in there and complain about it thinking something is defective

I think you are correct. My 2012 has black caps.

Your 2012 should have Vault hubs on it. They are not oil filled but have a special grease that melts when warm. Wiredog

One or two drops of water will turn the lube milky.
The other thing to check out is the wear sleeve under the inside seal. They may look fine but are letting tiny bits of moisture in hence the milky coloration.
