Default Planer board size?

I'd like to use the standard planer boards with a mast if I could, I have a 18 foot boat so not a lot of room.

Any suggestions for a smaller sized board that would probably not have more than two lines off it??
I have several in line boards but would like to try these too.

Let me narrow this down a bit, I have a set of masted planer boards, but they are a dual board and take up a lot of space, which I don't have.

Are there single board planers that work tied to a mast and will they usually handle two lines??

Are your boards the folding variety? I've got 2 sets of big boards, and they both fold flat.

The boards from amish outfitters fold down, I believe the ones from Big Jon Sports do as well.

At work so I don't know what brand they are, not Off Shore or Church's, but they are yellow..

They come apart or fold together by some brackets that if I remember right, run across the top.
If using a dual board is the better way, I'll just maybe use them.

Although I read a ways back where people weren't overly thrilled with them.
Thanks all.

Al

ps..who sells the big boards, neither Church, Big John or Off Shore seem to list them on their web site???

tia...again

I have a 19 ft boat and mast set-up which I use for trolling with big boards. I mainly use them when fishing on Lake Erie, they are kind of a pain in the *** on smaller lakes and rivers.

I've used these Riveria dual ski planers in the past. I actually have the set sitting in my closet just collecting dust. They do not pull real hard and don't track well in heavy/rough seas. They do fold flat for easy storage. They would do fine for 2 lines a side on a calm lake or river. Cabelas and other places carry these for around $100/set.

I now use the Amish Outiftter's dual composite boards. These boards pull like a mule, there is no comparison to the Riveria or similar plastic boards.
They put alot of stress on my mast, and already I've had them snap the bright orange dacron line that came spooled on my planer reels. I will say that they keep a tight tow line and track nicely in rougher seas.

There are a few other manufacturer's that make the big boards. Aurura Lite tackle makes a nice but pricey set. I know nothing about these, but Pauls Planers boards is another. These might be more attractive to you since they are alot smaller than the Amish Outfitters or Aurora boards.

Thanks, my inernet wanderings had me on the Riveria site and they mention a three way hook up to use depending on conditions, that the ones you tried?

Might still work, I don't get to brave on Superior and 10mph winds are max for me, I'd prefer less..

Ok, I'll try the pair I have being a single planer boards appears not to work as a masted board.
That fails, I'll get a pair from Riveria

Any recommendations on releases?
Should I use the one with the little dimple on it or ????

Maybe rubber bands ?

I'll be using mono mostly.

Please don't take this the wring way. You need to either have someone who is experienced in running big boards or go on someone else's boat who is. Your confusing a lot of different parts and techniques that are not interchangeable between the big and small boards .

If you ever want to make a trip to erie you are welcome to fish with me for a day and I'll do my best to teach you small boards and show you the basics of big boards ( I'm not really versed in big boards but know the basics and what not).

No offense taken, I have already been out in other boats and mine with the in-lines, I think I'd rather try/run the masted boards.

I have seen the releases with and with out the little dimple, just wonder if the added holding power is needed on these?

I have also seen on a masted set up where they use a curtain rod hoop (?) and run either a mechanical release or a rubber band off that and the whole works slides down the masted line.

I doubt we'd ever get a time together, but thanks anyway, maybe just tell me what I have confused?
