Thumbs down HumminbirdPC

Today I downloaded from the Humminbird site and tried to install HumminbirdPC so that I could import and edit waypoints from a 998 cSI. The installation procedure requires going thru pape after page of attempts to add junk to the computer and browser . Something called funmoods took over the browser and there did not seem to be any way to avoid installing free download manager (which seems to have nothing to do with HumminbirdPC). When the installation finished there was no trace of HumminbirdPC (tried sever file searches). To remove funmoods I deleted all addons to firefox and wound up with no workable email system and all stored emails deleted. Ditto browser bookmarks. Has anyone else tried to install this program recently and were you successful? After wasting an entire afternoon I am reluctant to try again. If you were successful what did you do?

I had the same problem about a month ago, new laptop. I followed all the prompts and after several minutes patiently waiting, nothing....I called HB and explained the situation, I was told I have to download the Humminbird PC program! As hard as it was to control myself, I said did you listen to a word i just said, I attempted to and got nothing. I was then told it must be a problem with my laptop, honestly I became frustrated easily and haven't attempted again. I'm not a computer guy but I have the skills to follow instructions for the most part.

I've downloaded H/B PC to a number of computers, one as recently as 2 months ago. Never had an experience like that. I have had experiences similar trying to download other programs. I'd bet it's some kind of malware running in your computer. My most recent H/B PC download was to a new computer. Hence there probably wasn't a chance for the computer to pick up a bug. If someone can't help you with the download bug here, try a computer forum. 99.9% chance it's not H/B PC, it's your machine.

I have installed HB PC on several machines as well and never have encountered any sequences or problems you described.

Based on this link from Norton, what you describe sounds like some browser malware inserted itself into the installation process:

Looks like you will need to clean your machine then do a reinstall of a known good version of HB PC.

The file download from the Humminbird site link is a 53.9 MB file with a name of 58199e1a3d8946739...exe. AT least thats the name of the file that I get when I download. Running AVIRA does not indicate any virus problems. Does this file sound familiar to those who have successfully installed HumminbirdPC?

I installed it on a 64 bit Win 7 PC but needed to download and run direct x a couple times even when dxdiag said it was OK to run the 3D. I turned off my AVG antivirus when I ran it & install fine the first time. Try the regular Humminbird PC download first. It sounds like you ran the update first. As far as your other program it came from something else just waiting for a reboot. Go to run & type msconfig for a program that will show what programs load when booting (startup). Also look in your list of programs under the startup icon and see if junk is in there. If you see anything you don't recognise then unclick it. You can always change it back. You can also go to run and type in services.msc to see if junk is running there. If so disable it. Write down what you do so you can change it back if needed. Good luck...it's like searching for the winning Walleye!

We do not have any other program attached to the Humminbird PC download. It should be nothing other than the Humminbird PC program. This does sound as if there is malaware that is affecting your pc.

I am sorry you are having problems downloading the update. If you are still having problems after cleaning the pc of the affected malware.
