So after reading all the posts here about Ultimate Bunk Boards, I made the decision that will be the best way for me to go. I replaced one bunk a couple of years ago (should have done both) and now the other one is due. The manual for my trailer shows the bunks at 10' long but they are a little shorter. My boat is in storage at the lake so I don't have an exact measurment, but I think it is 116". I had to cut a few inches off the ten foot 2x4 last time I replaced one. I contacted UBB and they have to charge more for shipping 10 footers (135 bucks) than it costs for the bunks themselves. 9 footers are free to ship. I'm wondering, since my current bunks are about 9' 8" if I could get away with 9 footers. The current bunks go about 18" past the mounting bracket in the front. I would, of course, mount them to the same length in the rear of the trailer and lose 8" on the front. As it is, the boat (16' Lund) does not ride on the front few inches of the bunks anyway. It seems to me like it should be OK, I just wanted to get some other opinions.

...or I had another thought. Why couldn't a person just go down to Home Depot and get a couple of 10' Trex (composite lumber) 2x4s and use those...or maybe I could find someone driving from Georgia to New Mexico that could pick them up for me.

I can't imagine that there's a lot of difference between brands. If the hull is already not making contact at the front, an 8" shorter piece shouldn't be a problem.
Look at this overstock list http://www.american-plasticlumber.com/overstock.php 2x4x10' white for $20, located in TX If you do a Gooogle search for plastic lumber, lots of places offfering HDPE (high density polyethylene) 2x4's. HRG

It should work fine. As long as there is little to no weight on the front foot of the bunk, that part of the bunk is not really needed.
