Question Is a hard/cold boot possible with a HB 958c?

I'm having some screen color issues with my 958c and was wondering if setting it back to square one might help. The issues is my "shading" color has changed from a light blue to a very pretty light lavender. All the color palettes appear to be functioning normally and match my 858 i have on the bow. Everything seems to work... Just this "shading issue".

I have restored it to factory defaults and have loaded the latest software from HB. Neither helped. I have yet to run it from an isolated battery or done any other "REAL" troubleshooting for that matter. They only change I have done recently is move it from old boat to my new one. It worked fine initially but developed this in the last week or so. Roughly 200 hours on the unit. (if memory serves)

Anyone else run into this? I'll send it in IF I have to but kind of need it lately, ya know...

Never heard of a hard or soft boot for H/B units.

If you are talking about the depth shading used with Lakemaster chips. You can go into the menu and change intensity.

Nope. Depth shading is an entirely different function. The shading I'm referring to is the background of the pull downs from the menu functions. Go into the menu section and choose a category. Observe the color of the background shading of your selection. It should be a light blue. Mine is a light lavender.

Also when playing with the depth shading, I can have the screen flickering from this nice pretty lavender to the normal light blue. It kind of seems as if the color control somewhere is either going out, or has gone out and I'm banking on borrowed time before the whole unit crashes.

Maybe it's time for an upgrade for the helm. Send this one in for repair and use it in the bow when it comes back. But what to do with a almost new 858 unit? Put it in the stern for down rigging?

Have you done any updates to it? If so I would double check maybe the update became corrupted or the unit has lost the correct color in it`s memory. Just a thought. How old is the unit is it the 958 or 858 your posts differ on which unit.

Sorry for the confusion... I actually have both a 858 (bow mounted) and 958 (helm mounted). It's the 958 that's having problems. Both were purchased a little over a year ago.

The 958's color issues happened before the latest software update. I have since restored factory defaults and upgraded to the latest and greatest from HB.

Functionality is fine. In fact it worked perfectly the first couple times out after the transfer to the new boat. Then... The weird colors started showing up.

That sounds more like a bad connection or a partial failure in the LCD screen not a software issue. I have seen similar issues with notebook computer screens. If it is under still under warranty I would send it in. If it isn't maybe wait until it gets worse. Make sure you fully describe the problem so the tech knows exactly what to look for.

Did you register them with HB Select?? If you did Call the select phone no. and ask them. 888-227-7007 Wiredog

Also in case you didn`t know!! H B makes three versions of the sonars. The last letter in the mod.no. tells which is which. S. G. B. S is blue or straight, G is lavender or gay, B flickers back and forth between the two colors or Bi. Mabe you got the wrong model!! Just Sayin.
