Okay, I have a MH 7 6 rod (little light baitcaster, but will be replacing with something slightly bigger) and a heavy 8 foot rod (with Revo Toro winch). What are your recommendations on the size blades to throw on what rod/
MH would likely get the 7 blade and below and the Heavy would get the 7 blade and above, right? I get a sense (though have not tried this theory out yet), that I should get a rod somewhere between the MH and the H (if there is such a thing) to through the 7-10 rang blade bucktails. I would appreciate any thoughts because I am at the point of my musky experience that I know just enough to make an informed choice in rod but too inexperienced to make the right choice. thanks |

One of the problems is a MH in one brand may not be the same action in another brand.
Go spend some time in a few stores and check a few out. I run 8 foot ToothTamer MH fast rod most the time, I'll run their 8' heavy if I run bigger baits and I don't toss the 2# lures but if I did I might look at their XXXH rod. If I had to pick one, the MH would be it, it'll toss most your baits just fine. Al

7-6 MH would be ok for 8s and under...guys have thrown 10s with them when they couldnt or wouldnt buy longer, heavier rods and they work alright, but wear out the angler.
8 H will work well for 10s and under...if it is H-F (fast action tip) you could easily go all the way down to 6s and 7s with that rod. If you are getting another rod, consider going longer..8-6 or 9...my suggestion is 9 foot Heavy Fast.
