My girlfriend picked up a Shimano Cardiff 300 reel at a estate/garage sale for $10. It's gold in color with 4 ball bearings. She was told it's 10 years old with very little use. (still in the box) Does anybody have any experience with this reel. Likes or dislikes? Can it handle muskies/pike or is this more a walleye/bass reel?
Thanks, Larbo |

I have one that I use for walleye and steelhead. Works well casting, jigging, or trolling. If in good condition, the $10 is a very good price compared to buying new.

Might be a bit light for Muskies, although I use a 400 series for bucktails and such, spooled it with 35# cortland musky line and it works very well.
I'd not toss the big baites though, be kinda hard on it and the drag isn't set up for 60-100 test that many use. Good buy though. Al

Probably a little light for Muskie duty. It's a decent reel, and at $10 you did very well. If it were mine, I'd put it on bottom bouncer duty

I just sold my Cardiff 101A just a few months ago because the handle was on the left side. I replaced it with a Citica 200E. The Cardiff cast just about as well as the Citica. I also have some Daiwa 103HA's (Z and X) and the Cardiff could cast just as well as those too. If I had the Cardiff 300 and did not have a musky reel, I would use it.
