For us with tillers, and I have a big one, 2010 ProGuide, and our love for them, it is hard to explain to people that love wheel boats. I'm a fisherman, on Lake Erie it allows for the room to run 6 rods and be mobile in the boat. Up in Canada where we jig and troll 3-ways it gives 3 of us plenty of room to not bump into the next guy. I'm not trying to change anybody that has a wheel boat. But let it be known I have not seen a reason to change from a triller to a windshield. Do I get wet sometimes, You can bank on that. But I'm getting better at that in boat control. Last but not least it's a cult!

2010 ProGuide, 175 Opti, power steering, 9.9 ProKicker

I agree with that 100%!! My 85 Alumacraft T14S is going to have to do for my second boat for now!!

Default Console

Key words from your opening post..."in light of the wife". Get a console unless she's VERY diehard or she's not gonna be happy. I have a console and fish with my kids and my wife. An open boat would greatly limit the already limited days I get on the water. Even when my kids are gone I will stick with a console.

I fish with my wife and kids often enough in a tiller and never hear any of the complaints that the windshield crowd has. I'd be interested how many of the anti-tillers have been in a tiller larger than 14ft.

Yep. Kids are more concerned with room to move so mistakes are not as likely to happen than they are having a windshield on them.

I'm not buying the cold/wet bit w/kids. Not for a second. **** don't any of you remember your mother having to MAKE you put your coat/hat/gloves on before you went out for a snowball fight.

I can tell you that over the last two years I LOVED fishing out of my DC boat in the fall/winter/spring as it is awesome to have that to hide behind. Fishing those same months in my buddies tiller is ROUGH (at least the run is rough).

However that is where it ends. I grew up fishing with dad (when I was a kid) and I remember mom and I loving being in the boat and lack of windshield was not an issue.

Yep, that is what I was saying...In fact, it was a requirement just to have enough room for us to fish.

Is a tiller boat really any wetter than a bubble windshield wheel boat? Or are we talking about only a full windshield will keep you dry?

it's not just the lack of a windshield but the fact you are sitting in the very back of the boat, so any spray that comes up, and gets blown over is going to get you.
