Default Smartphones

Just curious. How many of you guys now carry a Smartphone. I am still using the Motorola Flip Phone. Watching the commericals on TV it seems these phones do just about every thing. Not sure if I need one or not, but it seems like a neat thing to have. Any opinions?

Default Wouldn't leave home without it!!

Half the time I love it and the other half I want to throw into the bottom of a ditch!! It's great to have all my emails and apps, and web access at my finger tips at all times, but also makes it almost impossible to be "disconnected". Even in some of the remote areas in Canada you can still get cell reception and a lot of resorts now have WiFi. All in all, I love having it and would never want to be without it again. I have an iPhone 4 and think it works great for what I do. I would highly recommend getting one, once you do you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

Eventually you will almost have to switch. Just was looking at phones yesterday. Virtually everything is a "smart phone", and the phones with actual numbers on them.....Those are going to be a thing of the past in a year.

ffishman, I don't know where you are in life or what your phone needs are, but when I retired six years ago I made a conscious decision to not go out of my way to make it easy for people to reach me. My adult kids and their spouses carry smart phones and use all their capabilities, but the technology does not interest me. I have a Motorola flip phone and don't want or need anything else. Just give me a telephone that works! I've never even used the built camera to see how it operates. With a desktop and laptop at home I can do all the surfing I want to . . . and it's a whole lot. Before going the "smart phone" route, check the costs. To use the additional features you need a plan the not only includes voice minutes, but data and texting charges also.

Best thing I ever did phone-wise was dump AT&T several years ago, both land line and cell. Check out Consumer Cellular's web site. I have a 300 minutes per month plan (no roaming or long distance charges) that costs me $20 + taxes per month. Phone was free, no contract, I can change my plan at anytime w/out penalty.

If you spend a lot of time in your vehicle, and if it's an OnStar equipped GM brand, buy prepaid minutes for the phone. It's a cheap way to go when traveling. By the way, my old AT&T phones never connected to service in Canada. Every time I crossed the bridge in Int'l. Falls I totally lost signal before getting to downtown Ft. Francis. The phone in my GMC gets a good signal at our usual camp just south of Perrault Falls.

Well, to be completely honest, my son's smart phone serves one good purpose. The past several years he's been able to get on line and check weather reports on almost any NW Ontario lake we've been on when the clouds started to look ominous.

I use mine on the boat to check the weather.
I has come in handy many times.
Plus checking E-mails and stocks, etc.
Of course I lived without one for XX years and I could do it again,
if I had to.

Says the man trying to start a battle! Odd statement given that Samsung out sold iPhone 2 to 1 in the last quarter.
