Hi all,
I need some help. Have brand new Navionics North, just bought last night. I did the update through their site, using their usb plug, all shows up fine on the PC "App". All seemed good. Put it into Elite 5 (just brand new from Lowrance "upgrade" from non working unit). And this is what I get: see image. www.boxmeyers.com/erik/nav1.jpg The lake area is all blocky blue, no matter what I zoom to. I did select "Navionics" as you can see in the image as well. What am I doing wrong? I will assume it is user error (though I have had Navionics for years, and Lakmaster, and several GPS units, and even work in the tech field... go figure...) but this very frustrating. Did the update go bad? It took forever to do. Wanted to have it working for a trip my brother and I am going on tomorrow. Would have been fine if the stoopid elite5 would take SD because we have two Navionics chips in SD that were working until our other units went the heck.... another storry for another time ![]() Thanks for any help you can give. -Box

First thing I would do is take the Navionics chip out and see if the normal base map appears correctly. If that appears to be ok, that eliminates that variable. If it looks funny as well, could be something with the unit. If the base map looks fine, I have to ask what type of Navionics chip is it, is it a Premium or Platinum? If it is a Platinum, that could be part of the problem because I believe elite units cannot read Platinum cards correctly. If it is a Premium, I would see if an upgarde is available tomorrow, if there is not, I would call Navionics and ask them how to do a re-install of the data.

Thanks Mark.
The base map displays fine. When I change to Nav it just turns blocky as in the image. Turn back to Lowrance map and it is fine again. I am downloading the update now, though I updated yesterday as well, but doing it again just in case. It is the Premium. I asked the guy at the store (Cabelas) if it would for sure work in Elite 5 and he said yes, which is what I thought was true anyway. I just so wanted this to work out of the box... so many probs that I... just can't/won't say here. I just want it to work... Thanks for your advice, hopefully the update takes this time and I can sing praises... not so right now

Update - called Navionics, and spoke to a person who answered right away and was helpful and friendly. She gave me a couple things to try, but can't try as the chip is with me and the boat is on Mille Lacs right now...
For anyone interested, apparently the Premium chip needs firmware to be 3.5.0 or above, and I am not sure what we have. Just got unit directly from Lowrance a couple weeks ago, so hopefully is rather up to date... Thanks.

You need to change navionics setting to mmc/sd. Navionics is not referring to the chip it is referring to the type of mapping your unit is doing.

Hi Lund. Not sure what you mean? Can you give more info? I cannot see anything about setting of the chip. I am also not "mapping" anything, just trying to use the chip they gave me.
I did find that in the Elite 5 it only gives one choice "Navionics". But in an older unit we tested (Eaghle 642), we have several choices (regions). The funny thing is, Minnesota is NOT there. East Michigan, ND, Iowa and an Ontario region is listed, but no MN. That is making me think the update I did did not work. Will call them today to figure out how to "un-update" or roll back.Oh yeah, the Lowrance unit has firmware 3.6.0 so that should not be problem.

Looks like the map data is missing. I just picked up the North Chip N6 and went through all the updates. Opened up their pc app and looking at most of the lakes I fish. Then I looked at the Racine Harbor and below is what it shows. I then went and put the chip in my Lowrance and Hb and showed the same. My 08 chip showed it correctly as with my Navionics I phone app. It seems that from Milwaukee south the charts are messed up. I sent them an email, only time will tell if they will fix them. If any one has a North chip I would like to here if your charts show the same.

Hey Singleshot, make sure to update the Navionics "World" or Store application, not just the chart update.
I called Nav again, and talked to a nice guy (their folks definitely are nice). He seemed to think that one problem might be that Lowrance has 3.5.0 as the most up to date firmware, but I have 3.6.0. My guess is that since my unit came direct from Lowrance that is has latest firmware, even if they don't have it publicly available. But I think my problem was with Nav update. He had me update the NAV "Store" application, which just came out last night. I did that, and then ran the Update on chip again. This time I actually have about three times the number of files on the chip after the update. Have not been able to test it yet, but will tonight hopefully. I do see MN files on the chip now, so I think will be good to go. Technology is grand when it works, and a major league PITA when it doesn't ![]() Now to try to find someone who wants SD navionics chips, since we have no units that can use them anymore, on MicroSD... sigh... Swap Board, here I come ![]() Thanks all for the help. Maybe somebody later can find answers if they see the same thing.

Just wanted to update those interested - it is all working now!
Had to update the Navionics "World" software (it does the updating of chips) and then restart Windows, and then update the chip itself. My first two attempts did not put all the files in the chip for some reason. Now working like a champ. Kudos to Navionics support (I believe Andrea first time, Jeff second time), as the steps I was given today worked as instructed. (They had a new "World" update last night, maybe that was it...) Thanks for your input here, I appreciate it!
