Missing crappies

Does an anyone know why the crappies can found be found right under the last ice but once its gone so are they?

Maybe boat movement will push them off normal or pre-ice out spots, especially when they are so shallow. Also, I would expect to find them in deeper water out in front of potential spawning grounds the warmer it gets.

same thing with perch here... nail them under the floating ice and once it melts will never catch another one there. I have no clue other than maybe the change in water temp....

I was always told that as the oxygen level gets lowere are the winter moves on, the Crappie migrate towards the top of the ice (Last Ice). That being said, when the ice is gone, Free Willy I guess.

Thanks for your info. wouldnt be so advid, but the ones at late ice are 15-20" long.

I could see why there not just under the surface this year. ice went off with 30mph winds.

Wow. A 20" long crappie would be a new state record here in Wisconsin.

Warmer water that has a higher oxygen level running into the holes draws them to the top of the water column.
