I guess the editing software on this site doesn't like the base word of "cocked" LOL!

The P238 is a very nice gun and for those who understand how to carry a gun cocked and locked it makes a great carry gun. But for inexperianced people a long double action trigger like the LCP has is a better option IMHO. At the range yes the P238 will be a nicer gun but as a self defense tool it's a toss up. The way you are carrying your gun is a recipeite for disaster! In a defense situation I would take a LCP ready to shoot over a nicer gun such as the P238 carried the way you are carrying it that would require cocking the hammer any day. And for the record my main carry gun is a 1911 so I have no issue with carrying a gun cocked and locked.
I carry my Kimber condition one. I carry the Sig in a pocket holster and prefer hammer down. To each their own. My question to you was about your statement that the sig is "required" to be cocked/locked. That is simply not true.

You are correct, it does not have to be cocked and locked. I guess in my mind I just don't see the reasoning behind not carrying it that way but like you say to each their own. I looked long and hard at the Sig P238 as they are a really neet gun but decided to go with a Seacamp .32 for my really small carry gun. Excellent quality but no sights so it's not the most fun at the range but for it's intended purposes it's a hard one to beat.

I always have a condition 1 P238 in in a pocket holster that covers the safety lever. You can't beat a soft shooting, locked breech, short trigger pull single action for putting a lot of rounds on target in the shortest amount of time possible. And that's really what it's all about......

Even with a small round like the .380 the difference between a blowback DA and a good SA is enormous.
