We've had significant problems with vandalism at the slips where I keep my rig.
Its a long walk down there so I really do not want to remove it every time I leave the boat. Hasanybody mounted their Terrova's in a way to deter vandalism? I picked up some tamper resistant stainless Torx bolts, but can't find any tamper resistnet stainless nuts. |

You could put a 40,000 volt taser on the motor, so that if any body that is not authorized, would be tased and trigger an emergency response to your slip.
It is doubtful that you can really get any sort of nuts and bolts, that would deter an Earnest thief. REW |

I've seen a few guys use a small padlock with their quick release mounts. I personally bolt mine directly to the bow. It would be much harder to get under the bow and unbolt 4 mounting bolts than it would be to break off a small padlock.

I put a padlock on my quick release, but if somebody really wanted it, it wouldn't be to hard to break the lock and take the motor. I like REW's suggestion!!

I used a padlock on my quick release plate. The padlock is the weak link since the rest of the bolts are way under neath and hard to access.
If you use a hardened high quality padlock that would significantly increase the difficulty. If they bring the right tools, they will get anything they want. Hopefully someone would notice someone down there with a sawzall, air chisen, and huge bolt cutters. |

By using a boat trailer to haul the rig home on and storing it in a locked garage next to the house. I wouldn't ever consider keeping my boat on the local lake here.

Any kind of lock should be enough of a deterrent. Most thieves want the easiest target and be ably to get in/out without being noticed and spending too much time in the area. Anything that will make them think it's too much work and then they can move down the line to something else thats not secured.

Yup, same here, spend a few bucks extra and get the best lock you can, might just slow then down enough to go elsewhere. Al

I purchased the quick release just for the fact it IS a quick release.
Takes a few seconds to release it and secure it in a safer location. With it NOT on the boat alone will draw less attention to the boat, same with any other electronics or gear. |
