Sold my FL-8 and got a Lowrance x67 ice machine. Love it. Depth shows up in digital form in middle of flasher screen. Change depth range in the menu and it puts up a new screen with the depth you chose. Set the keel offset so you get a true depth reading (in Northern WI there's 3+ feet of ice and after you drop transducer beneath ice level your unit is off by 3+ feet if you don't adjust for it) None of the math that goes with a vex, S1, S2, D1, D2...are you kidding me? I spent that much money and it still doesn't give me a simple depth readout? It is also nice to flip to the regular sonar screen at times for a better view of what's going on.

One thing to consider is what brand of flasher does your buddies use. I have a Marcum LX5 and LX3, love the LX5. My son bought the Hummingbird ICE-55 and He/I are impressed with this. One advantage of Hummingbird is it is a different frequency so much less interference with a Marcum/Vexilar in same house.

Exactly...i guess some people like fishing in ANALOG, not DIGITAL. People , we rode horses once, now we are driving cars...still fishing analog???

X67c.

Graph and flasher mode, use mine for the ice and the boat, cheaper but as effective as either a vex/Marc/bird flasher or the showdown(I actually think it's better than a flasher in a lot of ways) .

Zoom, split zoom, different color palettes,

If not the x67c, both Lowrance and Hummingbird make a separate iceducer that will fit any of their lower end color TFT units.

I took my Humminbird 788CI off the boat and got the kit to use it for ice fishing. Actually liked it so much that I sold the ICE 35 and just use it, full color gps and a locator on the ice. Has a flasher mode but I find myself using the RTS window more.

Just reading this makes me wish for freeze up. 6" of snow today. Love my marcum Ix5 and don't regrete that my wife bought the best for Christmas. lol. Really got it to avoid interfearance with all 35s on the ice.

My new toy for the season will be a Humminbird 788ci HD with the ice package. I can triple duty it in my canoe, on the ice and in the bow of the boat. GPS mapping, flasher, 2-D and DI all in one compact unit.
You can't use a DI unit with an Ice Ducer BTW.
I have the 788CI without down imaging and used it last year on the ice and loved it. I use the RTS window more than the flasher mode because I can track the history then.

I really like the transducer float technique that the vexilar uses.
