Default Terrova Autopilot

I have one on my boat.

Like the motor enough power for all day fishing without needing to charge battery.

One thing that it does is when I am trolling, with autopilot on, it will go along and seems to lose sense of direction.

If not paying attention, all of a sudden we are stopped and going hard left or right. Makes for a lot of quick action.

Any thoughts on what is causing this?

The battery is full, either 3 or 4 lights when the button is pushed.

Somtimes when the power runs low, 2 light or less the motro will stop and reset itself

Are you using the Advanced Auto Pilot feature? It would do just as you are describing. The normal Auto Pilot won't act like that. Which trolling motor do you have exactly?

Hold down the auto pilot button until you hear a second beep and the circle around the N icon disappears......you will now be on magnetic, vice gps.
