I've pre-ordered a pound of leeches for my trip to Perrault Lake next week. (I hope the supplier has them!). Anyway, I've only fished with leeches a few times and have always bought them by the dozen. How do I store and transport a pound of them and keep them alive for several days?
I have a floating minnow bucket and a "leech saver" but I'm not sure the leech saver is big enough to handle a full pound. Thanks, Port |

Keep them cold in a refrigerator or cooler with ice. Change the water regularly using pre-cooled lake water or non chlorinated water. If they are allowed to warm up for much time, they won't last. If you take these measures, they will last for months.

Doesn't really matter how you care for them. You can't take them to Canada with you. Not allowed to bring them over the border into Ontario.

Didn't notice he said where he preordered them from. You must know the OP bought them in the US.

Northland makes a new bait tamer with a zipper. Problem with the ones that use velcro is those leeches can escape. There are also plastic leech tamers.
Once you put them in the water- keep them in the lake. Just make sure that the critters (coons, etc..) cant get at them. We fish Devils Lake and leave the leeches in the 70 degree water for days without issues.

The only Leeches you can take into Canada are Gulp Alive Leeches, they do work!!!
