went down to lake erie shoreline around E72nd noticed alot of dead shad floating all over. But I also saw millions of live ones swimming close to shore, will they die off or will they make our fishing more difficult???

shad are verry sensitive to sudden changes in water temp.therefore, this is a commin sight in the spring. the live ones you saw were probably stressing out

This is the first time in a couple of years that Lake Erie basically completely froze over. Whenever that happens, sensitive fish like the shad are affected by the loss of oxygen, especially near the surface. From the previous couple of seasons there were hardly any shad die off's, and one of the reasons why last year's fishing was hard. There was too much food in the system. Hopefully, with some die off this year will be much better. Good luck fishin'.
