Default 1975 Pro V / 225 Vrod / 19 Tempest

What are your guy's WOT RMPs? I've got a heavy stern by adding Sears AGM's to back batt compartment, 9.9 kicker and a 101 Vantage. I was expecting, and have heard 6250-6300 rpm / 57-58 mph with this boat with 2 guys tourney loaded.

Even with rear livewell empty 1/2 tanks, two 200# guys and light amount of gear, I'm getting 6100rpms... BARELY...I need chop and to go down wind to get 6150 consistently. I've raised motor up a hole from factory. I'm also getting a fair amount of porpoising, esp. on flat water...i can trim it down, but max RPMs go to 5800 for flat / not bouncing ride. I've tried a Bravo 1 FS 20 pitch...same rpms, slightly less porposing...slightly faster...

I absolutely LOVE the boat, and I'm confident I'll be able to iron out these wrinkles. Thoughts are custom prop and raising up another hole....or rearrange weight in boat to hopefully get porposing controlled and live with almost 6100 rpms...

Looking for some others advice / experiences with similar rig....Ideally, I'd like to get WOT up to 6250-6300 and no porposing. Top end speed isn't critical...I don't run WOT alot, just want to know I'm maximized performance wise.

Thanks in advance.

Goose

Your rpm are well with in operating range but my question is what time of the year did you do this testing? Lund Pro-V boats have heavy hulls and you need a lot of lift to get that boat out of the water. Is your prop in good condition and are you running a windshield.

Thanks, I realize I'm in operating range...I'm just wondering if I'm leaving a coupe hundred rpms on the table that I might easily be able to utilize...curious if my numbers are common, or slightly lacking.

Tested in 40 degree this spring during break in, 70 degree water late this summer, and again couple days ago in almost freezing water.... full windshield.... a guide with same rig for sale claims 57-58mph (has to be over 6250rpm) all day, every day with 3 and 4 people in boat...I know it's likely smoke being blown up my keister, but if close to true, it's way better than my rig ....just looking for similar rig #s. Prop is pristine.

Goose, try another 19 tempest they are not all equal. Some run better than others.

Maxxum, that does seem true...I tested a 19 Tempest during break-in (actually used for entire break, in) I remembered getting up to 6200 periodically with ideal conditions...boat came with a 21...ran that a bit too, but numbers / performance weren't there...put up with it while waiting to get replaced with new 19... I figured motor would "loosen up" a bit over summer, and I'd likely see 6300 easily ... with numbers actually getting "worse" over summer, I attributed it to adding heavy batteries and Vantage...numbers rest didn't change taking vantage off and raising a hole either.... "weak" prop makes sense...have been in contact with couple of prop shops...maybe have them work it over? A custom rev 4 is other idea...I fish with 3 and 4 quite a bit...would like that extra help out of hole, but hear the rev 4 is hard to turn... "high class problems", yup...but it's my dream rig and I want to know it's performing like it's meant to.

If you really want to get down to the nuts and bolts of what you're asking then give Ricky AKA Propman here on WC a call. The man knows his s*** when it comes to props. I saw a video on here by another fellow WC'er where Ricky helped him with his boat and the video showed him running low to mid 70's. I am not saying that is what you want but if you want to maximize your rig in every way possible then call Ricky.

Here is that thread with the video and responses.
