The question I have for the people with MBA's and PHD's in Business, what would happen if all Americans for a three month period target one oil (XYZ) company and boycott that company for that time period? How would the other oil companies react? Would they raise prices? Would (XYZ)really reduce their prices? I am sure many stock holders from (XYZ) demand that something be done if (XYZ) was losing money during that three month period. Your thoughts>>>

BALONEY!!! Did you hear the oil specialist on the Mike Gallagher show yesterday. There is NO oil shortage...oil producers are just charging more per barrel. They are simply trying to see what we are willing to pay for gasoline. Once it reaches a certain level, they may reduce it a few cents at the pump.
Do you realize how many oil wells are capped just in PA alone? I talked to an oil guy in Warren PA the other day. He said there is so much oil in the mountain areas of PA that PA could be self sufficient for a long time.

You don't need an MBA for that one Art...just Google.
From the internet...

[i]Just for the sake of argument, let's say we successfully organize the ExxonMobil boycott (I know this is fantasy, but hang with me here). ExxonMobil loses business and lowers prices to lure you back. The other stations will follow suit and lower prices to compete, right? Not quite. To avoid ExxonMobil you go to the Speedway across the street, instead. Speedway's business increases, causing them to raise their prices to try to control demand, otherwise their supply would be quickly depleted. Their higher prices drive customers to Shell, who in turn raise their prices and drive customers to BP, and so on. Eventually, supply and demand will equalize and all stations will have the same price again.

As consumers, we can do little to control supply, but we can control demand. However, effectively doing so means reducing demand overall, not just at one station. The reduction in demand must be severe and long-lasting. If you want to save money at the pump, slow down on the freeway, plan outings to get everything in one trip, walk more, and trade in that gas-guzzling SUV for an economical compact car for starters. In Montana we have a lot of ways to make electricity, including water power, endless coal and endless wind.
With today's environmental atitudes, dams and coal-fired are out of the question.
But, wind generation is growing bigtime. It is not surprising to us who are familiar with the people...but, the Hutterite colonies are way ahead of other large land holders in building private wind farms and selling some Kw to the grid. Of course their are incentives to do this, besides the profit.

There are many things that be could be done in alternative energy sources.

Just noticed on TV that a company in St. Cloud, Minnesota sells gasoline futures so you can lock in the price. They interviewed a customer who had bought quite a few gallons to used over a fixed period-3 years I think. The cost $.98 a gallon. The guy sure seemed satisfied with himself. I hope I got the facts right, just a short piece. Anyway you can check it out at the following website.

You hit it. If brokers didn't sell & investors didn't buy at current prices... the market would have no recourse but to mderate levels of value. Gets back down to the futures. If all the investors stayed out of oil, they wouldn't be collecting the gains, but more importantly if more attacks were to take place it would send prices of crude sky high based on the markets futures. Botton-line is as long as the "market will bear" the current prices on the retail level & fear of the unknown coupled w/ an ever dwindling supply line people are going to pay whatever it takes to maintain their standard of living.

Most everyone I know have a large truck or SUV towng boats & campers. Don't know anyone that would give it all up to drive an economy car (despite the fact towing ones toys would be pretty difficult)

Besides I thought the name "Thunder Horse" was given to the rig... not the well site in the Gulf. Isn't it the largest rig in the world??
