Pulling boat backward on trailer?
Going to weigh boat and trailer tomorrow. Want to try to fix swaying problem and going to check tongue weight. If I have to try pull boat back on trailer a little, can I use my forklift or tractor, hook up chains to the two ski eyes on the rear transom and pull gently and slowly?? Reata 1850 on ?@#%$?& single axle trailer. Thanks.

I'm sure that would work but I think you probably have a truck or hitch height problem. I have that same boat and it's the second most stable trailer I've ever pulled.

The 2 back eyes, and the front eye are as a combo strong enough to lift your boat off the trailer safely.
That's how many places that "cubby" a boat in a warehouse do it. Those are the lift points. |

Oly,
If you have someone else pull your boat, do they have a sway problem? Or in other words, is the sway from the trailer, or from the tow vehicle. I would think that with this rig you should have about 340-400 lbs on the ball of the tow vehicle. I have never heard of a sway problem being caused by too much weight. But, I have had and have pulled other trailers with too little weight and they had severe sway problems. |

My best advice for this would be to launch the boat, tie it up and then move your bow roller. I bought a tongue scale, yes it was $115 to weigh exactly one type of item. But let me tell you it was worth it knowing where I was at and what I had to do to get my trailer in line.
I found with my EZloader that the axle was installed off angle (crooked) as were the two side beams and most of the cross members. Because EZloader does not use a jig to weld there trailers it is all done by eye. Most screwed trailer I had ever seen. They ended up taking it back and rebuilding it. However as REW suggested sway is usually a culprit of not enough tongue weight. Could be caused by your trailer not being level on the hitch, this would indicate the hitch is to high for the trailer. However till you have a an actual tongue weight and level your trailer you really will not know what's causing the sway. |

Instead of moving boat. Why don't you just slide the axles back. I have had a boat trailer yet that this is not possible. just four u blots and jack. this way the boat is not hanging further out on the trailer.
