I made a Hand Control for my older Minnkota
Here is a video of a project I just finished. It is a Hand Held Control for my Minnkota 765mx. It will work for any Minnkota that has the same foot control. I did list the parts I used under the video. I hope you like it.

Well done. I fished with a guide a couple of years ago that actually used the foot pedal by hand (tiller boat, he stayed in the back).
The only thing I'd change is to use a larger switch for the steering control, like this Contura version. http://www.amazon.com/Seachoice-Cont.../dp/B00DNBFCFQ HRG

Hi All,
I actually have made 2 of these. The first had a larger switch. It was way harder to push. Also I wanted to keep it the style I have. The higher it sticks up the more likely it can be broken off . Here is how to wire the monster LOL. Get a extension cable for the foot controller or if you have an old bad controller you can cut the end off it to use. If you get an extension cable when you cut the end off you can use the end you cut off it as a port to extend your foot control like I did in the video. (make sure to leave it at least 6 inches long if you want to use it for the foot control) The (Mon off Mon) Momentary rocker switch is wired left to right and top to bottom as I am typing it below. YOU HAVE TO USE ALL 6 PINS OR IT WILL NOT TURN don't make that mistake, I did lol Top left to right) Green Red Yellow Bottom Left to right) Yellow Black Green You have to make a Y in the red wire and yellow wires to cross connect the wires on the Momentary switch. They do it in the foot controls circuit board so its hard to see. You need to do it and if you do not it will not work. You have to branch the black wire into 3. 1st goes to the on off switch, 2nd goes to the rotary switch (potentiometer) 3rd to the middle bottom of the (Mom off Mom) Momentary switch. The Rotary switch is wired looking from the back (it will work backwards if you have it wired backwards lol) Left Black Middle Brown Right Orange To the on off Rocker switch is. White and Black Now you have all I do and it will work if you do it this way. Remember the Potentiometer has to be 1.5k OHMs or it may not work or work correctly depending on how far off you are. I by mistake tried a 10 OHM and it would not even start. If you do like me and add the end of the cable you cut off to your pedal as an extension make sure you leave at least 6 inches of cord on it or it could be hard to solder the wires and have enough length to get out of the case. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Oh and if you call Digikey to order the parts they have an excellent tech department if you have questions. The part numbers I listed are Digikey part numbers not manufacturers. Have fun if you make one!!! And thank you for the comments!! Brad Last edited by bodyman2999; 12-20-2015 at 10:39 AM. |

Great job.
I have made a couple for both Minnkota as well as Motor Guide. The motor guide unit uses buttons, since that is how the foot controller is built. However, many folks including myself prefer the hand controller over the use of a foot controller. Be safe |
