I did exactly what Minnkota says in the above PDF. Ran this for 7 years with zero issues.

On the pre V2 motors, that worked good because there was the handle to run the wire through. That kept it out of the turning mechanism. With the V2, the wire has to be kept away from the shaft near the top.

Here's some pictures of how I rigged my transducer cable on a V2 I-Pilot. The stand off keep the cable out of the mount, and the bungee cord allows the cable to stretch when it rotates past the mount.
