kicker input
Going to try to take advantage of the pricing incentives for Mercury Kicker motors, but I am going to need some advice. First let me provide how I use the boat and what my trolling considerations will be. My boat is a Mirrocraft Dual Impact XL Deluxe 18'. I call it a poor man's Lund, and it works for me. The boat converts easily from fishing to pleasure boating in about 2 minutes. It is primarily used for fishing, but family vacations and an occasion weekend find it pulling skiers and tubers. With that said, I would prefer not to have the trolling motor permanently mounted. The boat is not ready for real big water, but on the right day I can see the Western basin of Lake Erie being in play. The real target will be Door County. So jealous of the guys out there on the reef. So I will primarily be trolling 15-35 ft. of water for walleye. The previous owner kept his kicker (No, I don't know what he had. ), but if the weather was right he used it to troll for salmon on Michigan. So what am I looking for.

Packpro,
My buddy used to have the same boat. He had a Merc 15hp tiller on & trolled great. I think his slowest speed was around 1.9-2mph. I think he 9.9 would push it just fine & maybe a little slower on the low end.

The 9.9 prokicker really should be permanently bolted to the transom. If you're looking for something that can be removed easily, I would go with a standard 8 or 9.9 hp merc long shaft. I wouldn't go down to the single cylinder models. they don't troll as good.

Not quite as wide. Rides a little rougher. Only rated to 150HP. Not quite the same amount of storage (Rods). However, I luv her (paid for). My "Lil Tin Bucket"

if you think your boat is a poor mans lund-- then you should look at a poor mans mercury and buy a tohatsu.

kicker on order
Mercury 9.9 ELH on order from BPS. Couldn't beat that price and Cabela's would not match. Did not get the pro. Needed the portability. I will steer with the trolling motor. Good to go 2014.

My brother has the same boat, I have a Lund Fisherman. I would call that a pretty nice boat, nothing poor about it. Heck, I thought your post was him as he is thinking of the same thing in getting a kicker for fishing Door County and added security. You would be fine with an 8 or 9.9.
