I looked at them side by side and could hardly tell a difference in screen size. For $400 I bought the 9

No they are different. The Helix 9 has 9" 480V x 800H screen resolution while the Helix 10 has a 10.1" 600V x 1024H screen. This means the Helix 9 has 103.66 DPI while the 10 has 117.51 DPI which gives the 10 a sharper screen. The Helix 10 SI also comes with HD side imaging transducer (XHS 9 HDSI 180 T) while the Helix 9 SI comes with the compact transducer (XNT 9 SI 180 T). The HD SI transducer can use 800 kHz while the compact can not. You can upgrade to the HD SI transducer from Humminbird if the transducer is new in the packaging. I believe this upgrade cost about $85

Thanks
