Default Thinking about switching to glass, help.

Guys, I am thinking about switching to a glass boat. I have a 1750 tyee right now, but I would like to go a little longer 1-2' and I am thinking a glass boat would be nice. The ride is the major motivation.

So, fellow tin guys talk me off the ledge.

Glass guys please provide recommendations. I fish some bigger water in MN each year but no Great Lakes. Wife loves the flip up seats. I am not a fan of how the ranger fisherman has storage boxes in the cockpit, I do most of my fishing behind the windshield and prefer walking around room. I also need a full windshield.

I don't need to spend over 50k. I want the motor to maxed out.

Please provide recommendations.
Thanks

sounds like you need a skeeter mx2025. I had aluminum boats, but when I went to glass, I stayed. the ride will be much better with glass.

Skeeter WX1910, right price, right size, and has your flip up seats and full windshield with plenty of walk around room in the cockpit. If you don't like the flip up seats the MX line is perfect for what you describe.

The skeeter wx 1910 is on my short list. Thanks. Can anyone comment on the performance with a 175 or 200 Yamaha?

Take a look at Sea Hunt Escape. Built in South Carolina, but a salt water fishing dual console with a ton of room. I think they make on about 20' long, but we had a 22' long one for five years, best boat I have had. Would work great on big water.

I'd say skeeter also. I dont think you can go wrong with the wx1850 or wx1910. I switched last year from a 17' lund to a wx1900 and i wont ever be going back to tin. The jump seats are great and really comfortable. I would take a look at skeeter boat center. Great place to work with and may have previous model years on special.

1910 WX with 200. http://www.in-depthoutdoors.com/comm...0-performance/

The MX 2025 with a 200 costs about the same as a WX 1910. top speed for the 2025 / 200 hp is about 48 mph.

My advise is to look at Ranger, Yarcraft, Triton, Stratos, Tuffy, Larson. And then buy a Skeeter.

Minnie Man, I owned a Tyee 1750 for 8 years and loved the boat. I also wanted to gain another foot or two so went shopping this spring. We were about to pull the trigger on a new 1900 Tyee but decided last minute to look at a Ranger 1850 Reata. Ended up going with the Reata and I have to say that for as much as I liked the Tyee, this Reata is a whole nother animal. The ride is significantly improved and it has the jump seats, convertible bow etc yet it is a good all round fishing platform. Im a fan. I love the bigger Tyee too but I say if you are going to ck out glass, take a hard look at the Reata. I maxed it with a 175 Verado but I know a lot of people seem to be really happy with the 150 Merc 4S which can shave a few bucks. I think you can find one for under 50k depending upon how much you put into electronics, kicker, etc. And you can find a ton of used ones for under 35-40k that are in nice shape.

I switched from glass to tin for maintenance reasons. I keep my boats is good shape so I was polishing my glass fishing boat at least twice a year, further, the glass will break. Hit a dock, someone drops something relatively heavy and you've got a chip or crack. I found the tin boats to be less time consuming and less expensive to maintain. The ride is without a doubt better in the glass boats. Although a 20' tin boat gives a pretty good ride as well
