Default Best Sonar Using Terrova/US2

Any suggestions on a sonar to run off my bow mount Terrova using the US2 transducer?

Would the Lowrance Elite X7 Chirp work and would it give me Chirp sonar in 2D?

Don't really need GPS on the bow just a decent fish finder.

I see Minn kota suggest using one of the HB units with the Dual Beam Plus feature for best results with the US2. Any truth to this?

No truth to it at all, ANY unit that shoots 83/200 beams will work equally with the appropriate adapter cable for the US2, the new helix in sonar only version can be found for under 180 online and you could sell the included transducer for around $50 in the classifieds getting you down to just over 100 bucks for a nice color unit. A few bucks more and you can just get the sonar/gps model its nice to have once in a while and the antenna is built into the unit, they are low 200s online

The Helix is a unit I'm considering and it does have the Dual Beam Plus. Just wish it came in a 7" screen.

Also is it a bad idea to run a HD DS sonar off of the US2? I read some where on here that you'll burn up the sonar if you do.

DI units shoot 200/455 and u will not have the wide 83 sonar, but you can use them as long as you set the ducer to dual beam and have no issues. No point to buy a DI unit the US2 can only shoot dual beam. Look on ebay for a 858 or 958 they can be found cheaply or a lowrance non HDS series w a larger screen, just check the specs and make sure it does 83/200 and has a seperate cable for power and sonar, some entry level lowrances use a combination cable that wont work for US2

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was wondering if the Lowrance Elite 7x Chirp might be a good candidate to consider and if it would give me Chirp sonar in 2D? If not might as well look for the older Elite 7 or 7x model.

I doubt that the chirp function will work with the US2 transducer, but I could be wrong. Whatever you buy, you will need the adapter cable. See here:

Pulled the trigger on a new Elite 7x Chirp for the bow and a 93sv for the console from Brian yesterday at BBG Marine.

Anyone looking for electronics I strongly recommend using Brian. I picked his brain for several weeks while trying decide which way I wanted to go. Brian was always informative and very pleasant to deal with. A real stand up guy IMHO.

I've bought two units from Brian. I could beat his prices slightly but he made up for it with the best customer service I have ever received.

Another Vote for Brian. Just purchased an Elite 7 for a friend and got a great deal and fast delivery from Brian.
