Post Ft Dodge Iowa Des Moines River

The big dam has open water above it and some opening below it, but the slack water side on the north east side is still ice covered. Lizard creek flowing into the river is still mostly iced up, however, slightly down river, the center rocky piller, at the first train bridge is opening up. The little dam has some open water above and below, still seeing a lot of ice down river and around the second train bridge. Below the second train bridge a lot of ice down river covering deeper water walleye locations.

Half mile down river from the second train bridge 2 small Northern were caught with Husky jerks. The other areas listed no fish were seen or reported of being caught. The ice is slowly breaking up and the shallower faster moving water is opening more rapidly. Slower moving water in the deeper area's are still ice covered. I have 3 photos to share.

This week of fishing was about the same as last week. Saturday fishing conditions changed a bit with the warmer weather and raising river levels fish were located on and near shallow areas adjacent to deeper water with fallen tree's. I was using 1/8 oz jigs 2 to 3 feet from fallen trees.
