I respect your thoughts Mr. Golden that someone can register as anybody, and that is certainly true. For whatever reason, however, it seems that on the only other two sites I particpate in that registering does cut down on some of the bashing and negativity.

I don't believe posting is down because of the time of year or other reasons. Some long time Erie posters don't post anymore sadly. Also, as mentioned previously, not as much give and take either.

OK...well let's explore why the "other two sites" have less of what you call negativity.

How many posts do they get in a day?

How many registered users are there?

How many moderators are there?

It's easy to control a small group of people.

If they are the size of or larger than Walleye Central then maybe I need to take a look at them to see what they are doing.

I'm open to suggestions and I'm not pretending to be the authority.

I was probably online before them (since 1995), I would guess that I have more traffic than they do, therefore it's harder to control.

But...that is just a guess.

Currently there are 20,870 registered users on Walleye Central.

Golden,

You are correct by saying you can register as anyone you want and I have removed my "free advertising". I didn't think it was a big deal.

Scott is right, the other sites tend to be alot smaller and everyone knows everyone. It is hard to understand why someone who doesn't like something that is posted can't just ignore it and go on to topics they want to read? I find most heavily regulated, moderated sites to be very boring! If you disagree with the "owners" or one of the chosen you are not allowed to post. You usually can't report negative things about sponsors products....
I don't post reports here much because by the time I get here someone else has usually reported on the same area.

You are respectfully missing the point, sir. Registering as Mickey Mouse begins the process of establishing a "posting identity" for Mickey Mouse. He or she carries that identity with them for the life of that "character". In many cases (not all) it is the posting history of a character that determines the number and quality of posts in a given thread. It has absolutely nothing to do with the name they ultimately chose to register under.

I disagree.

If nobody knows who I am then I can post whatever I want and if I get "kicked off" then I just register as another person and I'm back where I started.

Registration does not fix the problem.

ONLY moderators and self policing can control the boards.

I understand what you are saying, I just don't think that is the solution.

Thanks for removing the "free advertising".

It's hard for me to sell advertising if people see others getting it for free. That is why it's a "big deal".

It's a big deal to those that are spending advertising dollars here.
