They are great pickled. The smaller ones have too many bones to eat any other way. Just fillet and cube. A white wine and vinagar brine with lots of onin is best. The bones just dissolve. Takes about a week in the brine for best results. Much better than herring.

The larger ones are best on the grill. Just leave the skin on the fillet, wrap in foil with onions and lemon. You kind of want to steam it. When you serve just cut with a spatula and the bones pop up, pick those out and enjoy the meat with melted butter.

The really big ones are good smoked. Gut and cut into 1.5 inch thick steaks. Use an apple cider brine and a wet apple wood smoke. I like it warm or cold. The skin just peels off. Pick your teeth with the rib bones ;0)

Actually, the stuff is not bad on the grill or baked. It stinks fried. Long ago, before internet obsessive compulsive behavior related to considering a renewable resource like FISH equal to human children, people did eat a muskie now and then.

I would rather eat pike, better flavor.

Here in Alaska we equate musky flesh to tasting just like those cute little puffins you see buzzing around in the ocean.

I don't keep them but enjoy fishing for them at times, but if you legally do so, it's up to you whether you keep one or not.

Personally I don't care, musky inc and other special interest groups have dumped them fish in lakes whether the locals want them or not, just so they can have more places to fish them.

C&R is just a stop gap that's doomed from the start, what we need is less people.
Pollution, starvation, depleting the natural resources, destroying natural habitant to put up buildings, yup, less people is the cure.

That ought to ruffle a feather or two..
