Default 375XF Underpowered?

I have a Stratos 375XF with a 115hp Suzuki four stroke and like the engine. Granted the boat is not a rocket, but it will do 40+ at 6000rmp. I usually run in the 4000-5000rpm range and my boat will do between 30-35 mph. I am on a lake that is 3100 acres and the boat has plenty of speed for a lake that size. I can remember when 40mph was really tearing, so over the years our egos have convinced us that more hp is always the best. Does it really matter if it takes you a minute longer to get across a lake? I quess it depends on how big a body of water you are on. I figure you only need top end speed to out run a storm; and again more hp will only save a minute or two. By that time the lightining probably would have hit you anyway. Also would like to add that I have never seen a fish swim 50mph.

My opinion is you will like the 115hp Merc. Especially the smoothness of the four stroke. The kicker motor will add some weight which may slightly impact performance, but not significantly. I think you can get by without a kicker for trolling since you can probably effectively run the 115hp at low enough rpm for trolling. That's your call.

If you can suppress the ego for a bigger engine, you can get good value for the boat you are looking at and love fishing off the boat. The Stratos 375XF is a great rig. I can't believe Stratos decided to stop building it! I feel fortunate I snatched a new one up before they were all gone.

Always remember, "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good."

Hope this helps.

I'm sure he's still in the market for that boat, after all it's only been 3 years.

Yeah right! The other guys 115 zuke runs 30-35 and your yammie runs high 40's??? Maybe on a messed up speedo.....keep dreamin dude. With a 140 you would be lucky to get into the 40's on that setup, but nice sales pitch though!!!
