That all depends on how deep you want your lure to run. To find out how deep a lure runs with X feet of line out, pick up the "Precision Trolling Book". It's a troller's Bible. Different lures dive to different depths, so your original question can't be answered as it is asked.

p.s. I should add that you want your lure to run at the depth, or just above the marks you are seeing on your sonar.
