Cleaning Hull
I have a fiberglass boat and would like to give it a good shine. I'm not a big car guy, so I basically have no knowledge on what to do or use. I don't have any buffers or anything like that, so I will be starting from scratch.
Also, on my boat, at one time it had a snap on cover, so the area that was exposed to the sun is faded somewhat, what can I do to get that back looking like new? Thanks in advance. |

As my son did with his riverboat this spring.
Lots and lots of time redoing the bottom paint on the hull as well as a full polish and wax on the hull. He first used rubbing compound to remove any oxidized material. He used a high speed buffer to do this job. Then, he used polishing compound to clean up the work from the rubbing compound. He used another buffer for this job. Finally, he did a full wax on the boat with a buffer for the final polish. He spent about 15 hours on the rubbing compound, 7 hours on the polishing compound and 3 hours on the waxing. The results were well worth the intense effort. The time is directly proportional to the amount of hull material being cleaned up. In his case, he had a LOT of hull material; hence the amount of work required. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8svH5DbhpM Be safe Last edited by REW; 06-25-2015 at 10:10 AM. |
