Default Help! Izzy stained the carpet

After nine years with never an accident in the house Izzy my golden ended up having to pee in the house while we were away and urinated on the carpet in the family room. After cleaning there is still a yellow tint to the carpet. Any advice on how to remove the stain? Many thanks. B.C.

Commercial carpet cleaning service. If you've never used one of those, all your carpets are due, dog pee or not.

x2.

But you may want to try using Natures Miracle first. It is far and away the best enzyme type product on the market. Used to have to get it by on line shopping/mail order, but I recently saw it at Pet Smart. The other big pet stores probably carry it, too. Having had two Brits for 13 years, and now a Lab, I forgot about buying the little spray bottle long ago. Now I get it a gallon at a time, though I haven't used it since the Lab came to live here.

A note on commercial cleaning. Before looking in the yellow pages and just calling one of the name brand cleaning outfits, talk to one of your local carpet stores for a recommendation. The local place we have purchased carpet from told us that they have an employee who only does cleaning, and has been doing it for years. We had several major "accidents" during the last year of my Brits' lives and he performed miracles! His years of experience and knowledge of the right product for the particular mess was outstanding. I wouldn't want to have to relay on someone of unknown knowledge/skill being sent over to do the job.

I have found most OTC stuff okay if you get to the stain right away. Need to soak it, scrub and then dry very good. If not, call your pro around the area. We had one come in and did a great job, pulling out some stains that were over 5 years old.

For urine and similar stains, one of the great enzyme based cleaners are the way to go. Put them on, let them sit, scrub the carpet and the stain is gone.

You don't use bleach on carpeting, unless you want to ruin your carpet.

Default Don't use hot water.

Initially clean with a carpet cleaner using only cold water as hot water will set a stain. Follow-up with multiple cleanings of Natures Miracle. Been through it multiple times with dogs and cats. Good luck!
