No water from "pee hole"
Good set up for a joke, I know....But real question... when you start your out board in the morrning in freezing temps (just) and it starts fine But no water from "pee" hole for 5 min. What is happening in the engine? is it being cooled ?? is the pump pumping and just the hole is frozen or ?? if so were is the water going ... any help. I forgot to spin the motor over after comming off the water and it went to freezing over night. This happend the next A.M. Thanks

RE: No water from
The "ring free" I brought you did that!
LOL! Naw... when it is cold (and definitely it is, where you are) the pee hole will be frozen. When you start the engine it takes a while for the water going through the engine to warm up enough to where it can melt the ice blocking the pee hole. |

Also, the same thing happens to your dash speedo (most of the water pressure ones anyway). First time we had our boat out it was about 30 degrees, and we thought the speedo was broke. Nope, just frozen :)

RE: No water from
The water coming out the "pee hole" is doing so only so that you can visually see it. It is a just a visual aide.
The vast majority of water is going out with the exhaust...(out through the prop on your F-50). |

RE: No water from
I stick the wire end of a bottom bouncer about an inch into the pee hole. It breaks up the ice and peeing resumes immediately. It is hard for me to have the motor run for 5 minutes and not see water come out the pee hole. Thanks

RE: No water from
Although it's not supposed to hurt anything if the pee hole is plugged, I like to simply let the lower unit sit in the water for 5 minutes or so before starting.
It might be 10 degree air temp, but the water your in is above freezing, so the water will thaw out anything that may be frozen. I worry about the impeller being frozen to the walls and it may not be turning. |
