Default best glue for plastic to plastic?

I let my brother in law borrow my boat to take his kids tubing and they used my transducer as a tree peg to get back into the boat and snapped it off it's plastic bracket that attaches to the boat. I figured I would try to glue it first, since I will only be able to get the boat out a few more times before we start ice fishing. I will fix it right this winter. What's the best glue for plastic to plastic? Thanks so much-Steve

JB Weld would be my choice. It secures just about anything, to anything else. SOLID!

Ditto on JB Weld - they make a JB Weld Quick now - sets in 4 minutes.

I have tried JB weld for this use and have found that it doesn't work as well as desired. JB weld is a great glue - but I have found that it doesn't work for plastics as well as other materials.

However, I have found that the instant glue with the plastic primer does work well.

Coat the two plastic surfaces to be bonded with the enclosed primer.

Then, coat the surfaces with glue and hold together. It is a done deal and should be good for a long time.

Remember with instant glue - a little glue is better than too much glue. If you use too much instant glue, the glue won't cure properly.

This is the one glue type that I have found works very well for gluing non porus plastic materials.

The following is one type - but there are other brands on the market that are available at your local hardware or home building center.

The best I have found is Miracle Glue.

www.miracleglue.com

It is much better than JB Weld by far.

You can actually "stress" the broken object almost as much as before it was broken.

You have to order it but will keep in frige for a long time.

It is the same stuff as Krazy glue but works better.

Gorilla definately holds wel but takes a little while to set and is best if you can clamp it.

Not sure if he can clamp the odd shaped transducer

Any of the polyeurathane glues like the Gorilla stuff already mentioned. It requires water to cure and some setup time. I believe Elmers carries some as well, it is brown looking. I've used on multiple items and holds much better than anything else I used.

I did a similar repair to a transducer bracket a few years ago.

I used a two-part epoxy. I'd use a black one as it's UV resistant.

I also added a piece of nylon strap as a reinforcement.

Rough up with some 120-320 sandpaper, clean with alcohol or acetone if you have it, clean a piece of old nylon strap, mix the epoxy, if possible do both sides, puddle it on, work the strap into it, then work more into the top of the strap.

Although the cyanacrolate (sp) are good, you need a LOT of contact area to get good adhesion. It's usually hard to find the accelerator/primer also.

You could also use fiberglass as a reinforcement - main thing is to strengthen it.

Mine held for several years, was still on there when I replaced the finder.

I've used this technique for a lot of plastic repair - boat, car, truck and house items.
