5 day limit of Pheasants care

We are hunting roosters in South Dakota and are looking for advice on how to care for our birds. Should we freeze birds from the first two days? Can one just keep all the birds on ice for the five days?

Freeze them after washing the meat as well as you can. Salmonella is not to be taken lightly.
If possible, get the meat as cold as possible as soon as you can after it was shot. It will taste better.

I wouldn't go 5 days unfrozen. 3 maybe. That's always been my upper limit on bird trips.

If you plan on having full limits each day of your five day hunt, you had better eat a few birds while there, I believe, like Montana, the South Dakota possession limit is 9 roosters.
