Default 2003 Lund rebel

I recently bought a 2004 Lund rebel 1650ss with a 2003 30hp Johnson 2 stroke on it. I added a minnkota 70lbs power drive 2 trolling motor to the bow and a 3 bank onboard charger. I can't get any kind of speed out of this boat. Original prop was a 10.3x13. I changed that to a 10x12 and a new hub just in case the old one had spun the prop. I can still only get a top speed of 10mph with the wind at my back speed measured off of 2 gps I'm not expecting to set speed records but I was thinking this boat motor comb should be in the 17-22mph range. Am I wrong for thinking this? Any advice would be appreciated . I'm at a lost. I think I could row faster the this. Motor runs good and rpm seem good. Thanks. Jeff

If you believe that 30hp = 30hp, here's a performance report on a hull that's similar to yours in size & weight, they're getting 20 mph.

Of course, the test boat doesn't have a bow mount and (2) batteries to lug around.

Trying different props is a possibility, but without really knowing what rpm's you're getting it's a guess.

Ten mph is way too slow for that boat and a thirty. Something is amiss. I also think you should be around twenty or a little over.

My 1998 16.5' Rebel (tiller) with a Yamaha forty four stroke runs 28-30 with two guys and all our "stuff".

That's probably borderline not enough motor for that combo. You'd have to have all your ducks in a row. If you can get over the "hump" and get her on plane....you should see 20. Now you're just plowing. Motor could be mounted way too deep, but like HRG said, without good RPM numbers it's all a crapshoot.

I have a 2001 Rebel-V 1650 , tiller ,same hull as yours but a few pounds less, (no side console), with a Yamaha 40hp. Ideal prop for this was a 11 5/8" X 11p. Performance is 29-32mph @5900-6000RPM. Only slightly less with 3 people and full gear. Always pops up on plane instantly, regardless.

With your 30hp I would think you would need an even lower pitch than I run (11p) . At 30hp you are a bit under powered for a Rebel 1650. If you are using a 13p or 12p, and only 10mph, sounds like you not even getting up on plane. What does your Tach say at Wide open throttle? That should tell you something, although if cannot even get on plane, maybe not.

You are running a bit of a heavy load for a 30hp. (Rebel -V 1650 a heavier rig than the standard Rebels of those model years) You might try a 9p prop. It would likely at least get you up on plane and get your RPMs up to recommended max, which for most 2 strokes about then about 5500.
