Default hooks and Rigging soft bait's

Hi guys ,

I have decided to get back into fishing after way to long time idol .
I used to only do muskie you know where every thing else is just bait ,
we did a little walleye but it seemed my Buddie was the only one to catch them even tho had same rod same reel same lure , but that was lake fishing on Mendota in Madison years ago ,

so any way in getting back into it and im planning to do mostly river fishing sense it is close ,
Im not really a jigging type fisherman i cant sit in one spot below a dam
I prefer to fish the eddies below down stream ,
Im looking at soft plastic now that there is more than just grubs out there , and thats what brings me to my questions

hooks for swim baits as i look on line i get confused at sizing
i have ( a start ) some 3" and 4" swim baits now but no hooks yet or a good idea on how many different ways to rig these ,

I have read many post on here that people poo poo the banjo style rigging can any one elaborate on that , and maybe direct me to a place i can learn rigging techniques and hook sizing for Walleye and sauger
the river is opening up wont be long ,
As i was always catch and release but after reading the recipes section I also need a link to filleting them out ,
im in the Iowa grant Richland area ,
thanks mark

Dean is a wealth of information, he will put you on what works.

Also check this site out for different baits/jigs maybe.
