lcd tv's

my brother-in-law has a samsung 40" lcd tv with a broken screen. he's gonna give it to me for my garage where i watch the steeler games but i need to see if i can get it repaired first. has anyone had a tv like this repaired? from what i gather through the net it's gonna be expensive but just wondered if anyone has gone through with it. thanks in advance!
