Lead core question

I have a quick question. I am going to try trolling lead core this year. Most of my waters are between 8 and 22 foot deep. I am going to try the 3 color method like explained in the trollers bible. Can i put my off shore boards right on the lead? Is the 3 color a good way to go in that water range? Thanks

No , you'll need to get past the lead to your mono then clip boards on...

You can usually cheat on the inside board and grab the lead. Further out than that, and the lead dips down too low and causes problems.

For those depths though, you may want to just use 1-1/2 to 2 colors (depedndong on leader length and lures used, I would go with 1.5 colors). That will give you some room to move them up if you want.

I use Churches Walleye Boards for lead core. They run true even with ten colors out. No issues with pinching the lead. I use this set-up exclusively for Salmon on Lake Michigan.

I run 205' to 215' of lead core (40' down) clipped to my modified boards with no problems at all on Francis Case and Oahe.
