Ranger reata 1850 options

i have a 2008 Reata and you will love this boat. I would go Merc just because its the proXS and you will find more dealer support. 80# Terra also works well. I personally would go for Hbird electronics. I have Lowrance but when its time to switch i prefer Hbird. Always been way more reliable for me.

Good point, there would be some precautions i would discuss the situation with my insurance company prior to the installation. From the information i have gathered it seems overpowering is a grey area from an insurance stand point. lays are slightly different here in Canada. A friend of mine ran a new 621 with a 300XS his WOT speed was not even close to mid 60's. The fastest test i have found on the internet was a 2006 620 @ 64mph running a 250 sportXS during a motor shootout. Note a 620 is a badass boat and would love to own one. Price is still high even $55,000 for a year old used one.

A new 621 can have a 300 horse engine, so the 300xs on it isn't overpowering it. Perhaps I misunderstood why you referenced that though.

This doesn't sound like a very good idea. Just saying. Isn't the. 225 HO Etec really putting out 247 HP. Why not just do that. Your asking for problems from not only coast guard but also insurance and law enforcement if they ever figure it out.

I just referenced the 621 for speed only. Here is what i found from the U.S Coast Guard.

Subpart D--Safe Powering

Sec. 183.53 Horsepower capacity.

The maximum horsepower capacity marked on a boat must not exceed the horsepower capacity determined by the computation method discussed in
paragraph (a) of this section, or for certain qualifying boats, the
performance test method discussed in paragraph (b) of this section.
(a) The maximum horsepower capacity must be computed as follows:
(1) Compute a factor by multiplying the boat length in feet by the
maximum transom width in feet excluding handles and other similar
fittings, attachments, and extensions. If the boat does not have a full
transom, the transom width is the broadest beam in the aftermost quarter
length of the boat.
(2) Locate horsepower capacity corresponding to the factor in Table
183.53.
(3) For a boat with a factor over 52.5, if the horsepower capacity
calculated in Table 183.53 is not an exact multiple of 5, it may be
raised to the next exact multiple of 5.

Ranger 620 ( 2 x 20.25 x 8 ) - 90 = 234hp = 240hp Tag = 250hp

Reata 2050 ( 2 x 20.41 x 8.04 ) - 90 = 238hp = 240hp Tag = 225hp

Reata 1850LS ( 2 x 18.66 x 8.33 ) - 90 = 220hp Tag = 175hp

In my opinion it seems Ranger under rates the Reata's to justify the extra cost for the Fisherman series.

According to a very good ranger dealer he's had this same conversation with ranger and although the 2050 could take the 250 without issue it's purely based on marketability of that model.

[2013 Ranger Reata 225 Pro XS]

My 2050 Reata will take you by suprise when I hit the throttle. This boat will get on plane very quickly with the 225 Pro XS, runs high 50's on the GPS and takes Lake Erie very well. I only have about 15 hours on the boat so far but am very happy with it. Would a 250 Pro XS make it go a little faster, I'm sure it would, but I can tell you I am very happy with the 225 Pro XS.

I just picked up my 2013 1860 angler today! If you primarily fish, go with the 1860 angler instead of the reata. The front deck is WAY bigger and it's built for fishing, without stepping into the fisherman series. Also, do yourself a favor, bite the bullet and put a 175 verado on it. At 6000' elevation, my boat does 52 and comes out of the hole like a rocket with that verado!!

After a couple of years in it, are you still happy with the 175 Verado?
