Hummm how any are adding cost of driving? I think for a reg SUV AAA says about 69 cents a mile. Few consider this,..Its not direct so its pretty much ignored.*
Did you buy a vehicle that could tow yer boat? (Oh Yes you also use it to take trash to the dump, and other rationalizations?)

So AAA also says that to operate an SUV for 15,000 costs over $10,000.
insurance
fuel
depreciation
license, registration, taxes
repairs
tires
some guys have to add big finance charges

OK I do it with things too...don't want to think about them too much.

At some age we all plateau. The amount of space we have is one of the determining factors. I think this thread got off on the wrong foot. Cost should not be used to analyse anything about fishing! If the kids are fed, clothed and educated and the wife is relatively happy: Then all expenses at that point are listed under miscellaneous! No need to get too carried away with the details. Bob

I am confused by this...... seemed like a good fun thread topic. Not a philosophical justification of fishing from a financial perspective.
Oh well, for what it's worth, props to the OP for starting an entertaining thread.

At first, probably $2000-3000 per year, but barely spend more than $200 per year now that I have most of what I need. Most of that is because I moved and now transitioning over to more Great Lakes trout and salmon fishing instead of walleye and bass/pike fishing.

I buy a new mid priced boat every 9 or 10 years and only upgrade my electronics and trolling motors when they quit working or get way out of date. I'd estimate the cost of the boat over time is $2K to $3K per year. Travel- $4,000 including salt trips. Rods & reels - $300 -one new one every few years. Tackle and associated equipment and tools $200. Ice gear and travel $1000. Maintenance and insurance of all equipment $500.

When I was going to Canada every year I'd say an easy $200. average. Three years in a row was a new rainsuit before I found one I liked and was comfortable in. Kept upgrading equip. also. It adds up real quick. $200. is probably low.

I normally ask the lodge owner for tips on the hot bait and spots to fish when I arrive in camp. During the course of that conversation I usually am offered a lure to try out. If that bait doesn't work, then I ask a group member if they have an extra ( fill in the blank ) to try out since the outfitter's suggestion was not working.

So far I've accumulated about 10 Plano boxes worth of gear for free.

My investment is the time it takes me to fleece these guys out of lures each year......which goes for about $200.00 per trip.
