Default Getting a new trolling motor, I have ??

I have a Minn Kota Power V Drive that I upgraded with I-Pilot. I've decided to get a new one, Terrova. (24v)

Reasons, I have noise in my bow depth finder. It is difficult to deploy and stow. It trips my battey breaker. Cannot run the foot pedal at the same time as the I-Pilot.

Questions. What is the difference between the V drive and Terrova? I have a 16 ft Alumicraft, is the short shaft fine? How easy is the Terrova to stow?

Any comments about the unit itself from users?

Thanks

Mike

Not 100% sure but I think the Terova is digital and the V2 is analog. My Terova is very easy to stow and deploy.

IMHO I have had both and stuck with the Terrova. Great motor, super quiet, tons of power, uses less juice (I found) and stows solid with easy deployment. You will not regret the decision at all. The powerdrive is a good motor too but I really feel like the Terrova is just at the next level. When it comes to the Ipilot it's a simple head swap too no rewiring required.

That is actually incorrect. The PowerDrive V2's i-Pilot is not the same animal at the Terrova's i-Pilot. You will not be able to move a PowerDrive V2 i-Pilot control head to a Terrova. They are installed and interfaced in completely different ways.

Sorry if the information was misleading. I didn't mean swapping the head between the two motors I meant the actual units themselves. The terrova head is a swap when installing the ipilot but the powerdrive unit requires some wiring when the unit would have been installed.

If you're buying a new one it would make sense to buy it with iPilot already installed - cheaper and easier and you're not buying (and not using) a auto-pilot head.

I'll constrain my answer to shat length: Go long.

You can always set the motor up higher if you need, or want, to run shallow.

If you need to run deep (bigger waves), you can't add on.

"Cut it off twice and it's still too short" is kinda the key phrase here.....

If the V2 is tripping your breaker the Terrova will surely on high this thing pulls some amps. Defiantly up the amps on the breaker and check your wiring size, ideally 6AWG is the best.
