I would like to see the jack that holds the tongue of that trailer up. Yikes, think of the tongue weight.

Many years ago, growing up on the farm, my father wanted a utility trailer for chores around the farm.

He had a couple of old pickups that had seen better days.

We removed the rear differential and tires from the back of the truck.

We cut the frame about 8 feet in front of the box. Then, we cut the frame and bent it so that it could come together at the front. We welded a ball hitch into the frame at that point.

We removed several leafs from the rear springs to make lighter loads ride better.

Then, since he did not want the differential and axle to be part of the equation, we removed the front solid axle and tires and steering ends from the front of the truck.

We put the front axle under the rear springs and locked the steering tie rods in a solid straight ahead position.

He used it for several years around the farm, and then it just pretty well just sat unused. On one of my trips back home from the midwest, I asked if my father wanted to use the trailer any more. I was thinking of making it into a camping trailer. He said no, so I hooked it to my car and returned to the midwest with it.

I cleaned it up, painted it and then made a hard top cover for it. Our family used it as a permanent storage for all of our camping equipment. Tent, sleeping bags, kitchen etc. We used it for several years, until we sold the trailer and purchased a tent trailer.

So, although a bit red neck, the trailer certainly worked very well and gave us trips with lots of happy memories.

Be safe
